About the Job:
We are seeking an experienced Appellate and Trial Litigation Attorney to join a well-established civil litigation practice representing clients in complex civil rights and employment law matters. This role offers the opportunity to handle appellate and trial litigation, work on high-profile cases, and collaborate with a dedicated legal team in a fast-paced, client-focused environment.
The ideal candidate has strong litigation and appellate experience, exceptional legal writing and oral advocacy skills, and the ability to independently manage cases while working closely with attorneys and support staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, review, and argue motions, pleadings, and appellate briefs in state and federal courts.
Represent clients in trial and appellate proceedings.
Manage litigation caseloads while ensuring compliance with court deadlines and procedural requirements.
Prepare and file petitions, motions, notices of appeal, and other legal documents.
Draft and respond to written discovery requests, objections, and document productions.
Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive legal memoranda.
Prepare EEOC and state administrative agency filings.
Participate in depositions, witness preparation, and trial strategy.
Assist with trial preparation, including jury instructions, motions in limine, exhibit lists, witness lists, and voir dire.
Handle post-trial matters, including appeals, post-trial motions, and appellate briefing.
Maintain accurate time records and case documentation.
Uphold client confidentiality and professional ethical standards.
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Active admission to the Missouri and/or Kansas Bar.
Experience handling appellate and trial litigation matters.
Strong knowledge of state and federal litigation procedures.
Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a legal team.
High level of professionalism, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
No current or prior disciplinary history with any state bar association.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Gmail, and legal document management tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in civil rights and employment law.
Experience with EEOC and state administrative agency proceedings.
Trial preparation and courtroom experience.
Strong appellate briefing and oral argument experience.
