About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Architect II / Architectural Designer II to join a highly respected multidisciplinary architecture and design firm in New York City. The firm works across a diverse portfolio including residential, hospitality, commercial, arts & culture, institutional, adaptive reuse, and new construction projects.
This position is ideal for an architect who combines strong design sensibility with technical expertise and can contribute throughout the project lifecycle, from design development and documentation through construction administration.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Planning
- Participate in architectural design and development from concept through construction documentation.
- Prepare client design presentations, concept images, 3D views, rendered elevations, and material selections.
- Develop design presentation materials and renderings.
- Implement design direction from project leadership.
- Understand project scope, deliverables, schedules, and deadlines.
Project Documentation
- Support the preparation of Design Development (DD) and Construction Document (CD) sets.
- Prepare architectural drawings, schedules, specifications, and details.
- Develop and coordinate project-specific construction details.
- Incorporate design changes and updates into project documentation.
- Review and coordinate consultant drawing sets before phase releases.
- Maintain accurate project correspondence and documentation.
Project & Consultant Coordination
- Coordinate with project teams, consultants, contractors, and clients.
- Participate in team and client meetings.
- Assist with meeting agendas and meeting minutes.
- Support BIM coordination with consultants.
- Help identify and resolve design, documentation, and coordination issues.
Construction Administration
- Assist with Construction Administration activities.
- Review RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings.
- Attend site meetings and conduct site observations as required.
- Assist with field reports and punch lists.
- Maintain RFI and submittal logs.
- Participate in progress reviews with the Project Manager.
- Assist with preparation of record documents and project closeout.
Quality Control
- Apply building codes and accessibility requirements.
- Follow project quality-control procedures and checklists.
- Support BIM execution and coordination.
- Self-check drawings and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain organized project files and records.
Team Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced staff.
- Collaborate effectively with project teams and consultants.
- Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and meet established deadlines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or a related field.
- 6+ years of professional architectural experience.
- Strong experience with architectural design and technical documentation.
- Experience working through multiple phases of the architectural design process.
- Strong understanding of construction documentation and detailing.
- Knowledge of building codes and accessibility requirements.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience coordinating with consultants and project teams.

The ideal candidate is a motivated architect who can balance creative design, technical precision, and project execution. Candidates with experience in residential, hospitality, commercial, institutional, adaptive reuse, or other complex architectural projects are encouraged to apply.
Experience with Construction Administration, BIM coordination, RFIs, submittals, consultant coordination, and construction documentation is highly valued.
Portfolio Requirement
A professional portfolio/work sample is required.
Candidates should be prepared to provide a 10–20 page PDF portfolio, preferably showcasing relevant design, technical documentation, and completed project experience.
