About the job:

A well-established national litigation defense firm is seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to join its Carlsbad, California office. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years of litigation experience, preferably in medical malpractice defense, healthcare litigation, professional liability, or general liability matters. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced trial attorneys on complex, high-exposure cases while gaining significant courtroom and case management experience.


Key Responsibilities:

Provide legal counsel and representation throughout all phases of litigation, from pre-trial through trial.

Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, legal memoranda, and settlement agreements.

Conduct legal research and analyze case law, statutes, and regulations.

Attend court hearings, depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.

Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to develop litigation strategies.

Manage case files and maintain regular communication with clients.

Participate in business development initiatives and foster client relationships.

Prepare witnesses and clients for depositions, hearings, and trial proceedings.


Required Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Active membership in the California State Bar.

Minimum of 4 years of litigation experience.

Experience handling medical malpractice defense, healthcare litigation, professional liability, or general liability cases preferred.

Strong knowledge of California State and Federal court procedures and rules.

Excellent legal research, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.

Superior written and verbal communication abilities.

Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

Trial preparation and courtroom experience.

Experience conducting depositions and handling motion practice.

Strong client management and relationship-building skills.

Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
