Position Summary

plaintiff-side personal injury law firm in downtown Milwaukee with a statewide practice. We are seeking an experienced Associate Attorney to handle personal injury and complex civil litigation matters from initial case evaluation through settlement, litigation, and trial.

The attorney will have meaningful responsibility for case strategy, client communication, discovery, depositions, motion practice, negotiations, and trial preparation. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and litigator who can work independently while collaborating with a supportive legal team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate liability, damages, insurance coverage, and overall case value.
  • Develop and execute case strategy from intake through resolution.
  • Communicate regularly with clients and provide clear, practical legal guidance.
  • Negotiate settlements with insurance adjusters and defense attorneys.
  • Handle ERISA, Medicare, Medicaid, and private lien resolution.
  • Conduct legal and factual research.
  • Draft and manage written discovery, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
  • Take and defend fact and expert witness depositions.
  • Draft, file, and argue motions in Wisconsin circuit courts.
  • Prepare pleadings, briefs, motions, and other substantive litigation documents.
  • Attend hearings, court proceedings, depositions, and client meetings.
  • Assist with all phases of trial preparation and participate in trial proceedings.
  • Coordinate experts, manage discovery, and support overall case development.
  • Travel occasionally throughout Wisconsin for hearings, depositions, or client meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) required.
  • 3–5+ years of civil litigation or personal injury experience on either the plaintiff or defense side.
  • Experience practicing in Wisconsin circuit courts.
  • Working knowledge of Wisconsin civil procedure and litigation practice.
  • Strong settlement negotiation skills.
  • Ability to understand and work with complex medical records, damages, insurance issues, and lien claims.
  • Strong legal writing, research, organization, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases independently and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent professional judgment and client communication skills.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and case management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Personal injury plaintiff-side experience.
  • Demonstrated interest or experience in medical malpractice.
  • Deposition and motion practice experience.
  • Trial experience, preferably as first or second chair.
  • Experience handling complex civil litigation beyond standard motor vehicle accident cases.
  • Experience managing cases through settlement or trial with limited supervision.
