We are seeking an experienced Attorney with a strong background in State and Local Tax (SALT) law, primarily focused on Maryland tax matters. This role is ideal for a highly analytical legal professional who can independently manage complex tax matters, provide strategic client counsel, and contribute to the continued growth of a sophisticated SALT practice.
The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of Maryland state and local tax regulations, substantial experience with sales and use tax matters, and strong client relationship management skills. This position offers direct client interaction, meaningful responsibility, and collaboration with attorneys across multiple practice areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage state and local tax matters from inception through resolution
Conduct detailed legal research and provide strategic tax analysis
Advise clients on Maryland SALT issues, including sales and use tax matters
Draft and review legal documents, memoranda, pleadings, and agreements
Represent clients in negotiations, audits, disputes, and related proceedings
Develop practical legal solutions tailored to client needs
Collaborate with attorneys and professionals across various practice areas
Maintain consistent client communication and provide proactive legal guidance
Ensure compliance with professional standards, bar requirements, and legal ethics
Stay current on developments in Maryland and multistate tax law
Requirements:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Minimum 5+ years of experience practicing State and Local Tax law
Strong experience handling sales and use tax matters
Extensive knowledge of Maryland SALT issues
Multistate tax experience, including Pennsylvania, is highly preferred
Admission to practice law in Maryland
Excellent legal research, analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills
Ability to manage matters independently with minimal supervision
Strong business judgment and client-focused approach
Prior experience in a law firm or professional services environment required
