About the Job:
We are seeking an experienced Conflicts Attorney to oversee the firm's conflicts clearance process and provide legal guidance on new business intake, lateral hires, ethical screens, and conflict resolution. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, legal research, and project management skills while ensuring compliance with professional responsibility rules and firm policies.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and analyze new business intake requests, conflicts reports, lateral hire conflicts, and ethical issues.
Evaluate conflicts search results and determine appropriate resolutions in accordance with legal ethics rules.
Manage conflicts clearance for new matters and lateral attorney hires.
Review and negotiate Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Draft conflict waivers, engagement letters, and client consent documentation.
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of ethical screens.
Advise attorneys and business teams on conflicts of interest, professional responsibility, and risk management issues.
Monitor and maintain accurate conflicts records and databases.
Conduct legal and corporate research using online legal research platforms and conflicts management systems.
Provide guidance, mentoring, and quality review for conflicts analysts and staff.
Assist with departmental workflow improvements and special projects.
Collaborate with legal, finance, business development, and administrative teams to ensure timely conflict resolution.
Required Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Active Bar membership in good standing (Ohio or waiver-eligible jurisdiction preferred).
Minimum 3+ years of law firm experience in conflicts, legal research, ethics, risk management, or new business intake.
Experience reviewing conflicts of interest and professional responsibility matters.
Strong understanding of legal ethics rules and conflict clearance procedures.
Excellent analytical, legal writing, and communication skills.
Strong organizational and project management abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
High level of discretion when handling confidential legal information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a large national or international law firm.
Supervisory or team leadership experience.
Experience handling lateral attorney conflicts checks.
Familiarity with OCGs, RFPs, ethical screens, and client engagement documentation.
