Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead day-to-day field operations for a major commercial renovation and redevelopment project in Chicago’s West Loop.
The project involves the renovation of an existing seven-story commercial building and includes multiple complex construction scopes. The Superintendent will be responsible for field leadership, subcontractor coordination, safety, quality, scheduling, logistics, and resolving construction issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily field construction activities and coordinate multiple trades.
- Direct and schedule subcontractors and field personnel.
- Develop and maintain 3–4 week look-ahead schedules and daily work plans.
- Lead subcontractor coordination and weekly site meetings.
- Monitor project progress, identify delays, and take corrective action.
- Enforce jobsite safety requirements and maintain a safe work environment.
- Perform field quality inspections and coordinate punch-list completion.
- Coordinate city, consultant, testing, and other required inspections.
- Review architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and specifications.
- Review and coordinate RFIs, submittals, and field conditions.
- Identify constructability issues and conflicts with existing conditions.
- Manage site access, deliveries, staging, and material storage.
- Maintain daily reports, site photos, and construction documentation.
- Coordinate shutdowns, temporary utilities, and temporary protection.
- Work closely with the Project Manager on schedules, procurement, RFIs, changes, and subcontractor performance.
- Support project turnover, commissioning, and closeout.
Project Scope
The project is a complex, multi-phase renovation of an existing seven-story commercial building.
Major scopes may include:
- Demolition
- Structural modifications
- Building envelope and façade work
- Rooftop construction
- Elevator work
- MEP systems
- Multiple concurrent work areas
- Complex urban site logistics
The Superintendent must be comfortable working in an existing building where conditions can change and problems need to be identified and resolved quickly.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of commercial construction field supervision preferred.
- Experience as a Construction Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Experience with commercial renovation, adaptive reuse, office, institutional, hospitality, or similar projects.
- Strong experience working with existing buildings and renovation projects.
- Experience with complex scopes such as structural modifications, façade/envelope, rooftop, elevators, and MEP is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, means and methods, and field coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings.
- Strong scheduling and short-term planning skills.
- Proven ability to lead subcontractors and hold trades accountable.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of OSHA and construction safety requirements.
- OSHA 30 preferred.
- Chicago construction experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with construction management software, digital drawings, daily reporting, and project documentation.

Work Environment
This is a full-time, on-site position in Chicago requiring strong daily field presence and hands-on leadership.
