About the Job:
We are seeking an experienced Credit Officer to independently underwrite, approve, and manage credit risk within Asset-Based Lending (ABL), Specialty Lending, and Finance Company (FINCO) portfolios. This role is responsible for evaluating complex commercial credit transactions, exercising independent credit judgment, managing portfolio risk, and partnering with business development teams to support prudent loan growth while maintaining strong credit quality.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive commercial credit underwriting experience, strong portfolio management expertise, and the ability to identify, assess, and mitigate credit risks across a variety of commercial lending structures.
Key Responsibilities:
Credit Underwriting & Approval:
Analyze and underwrite commercial credit requests, including new loan originations, renewals, modifications, and extensions.
Approve credit exposures within delegated lending authority and provide recommendations for higher-level approvals when necessary.
Structure transactions with appropriate collateral, covenants, and risk mitigants.
Evaluate borrower financial performance, cash flow, collateral quality, and repayment capacity.
Portfolio & Risk Management:
Monitor assigned commercial lending portfolios for credit quality and performance.
Conduct ongoing financial statement reviews, covenant compliance monitoring, and risk-rating assessments.
Identify emerging risks, industry trends, and portfolio concentrations.
Recommend corrective actions and risk mitigation strategies when needed.
Participate in portfolio reviews, stress testing, and sensitivity analyses.
Problem Credit Management:
Collaborate with Relationship Managers and Special Assets teams to manage criticized and classified loans.
Assist in problem loan identification, workout strategies, and action plans.
Support risk-rating updates and problem loan committee activities.
Monitor and report on deteriorating credit conditions.
Governance, Compliance & Regulatory Support:
Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, lending standards, and regulatory requirements.
Support internal audits, loan reviews, and regulatory examinations.
Maintain accurate credit documentation and risk assessments.
Stay informed on applicable banking regulations and industry best practices.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Serve as an independent risk advisor while maintaining strong partnerships with business line leaders.
Provide guidance and mentorship to Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, and junior credit staff.
Support process improvements, portfolio monitoring enhancements, and underwriting best practices.
Contribute to strategic credit initiatives and risk management programs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience:
7–10+ years of progressive commercial credit experience.
Significant experience in commercial credit underwriting and portfolio management.
Experience with Asset-Based Lending (ABL), Specialty Lending, Finance Companies (FINCO), or related commercial lending portfolios.
Proven ability to exercise independent credit judgment on complex lending relationships.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of commercial lending products and credit risk management practices.
