About the Job:

We are seeking an experienced Custom Design Director to lead the creative vision, design execution, and delivery of custom wallcoverings and large-format murals for commercial and luxury residential projects. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative leader with expertise in interior design, digital art direction, surface design, and large-format printing who enjoys collaborating with clients to transform concepts into high-quality finished products.

The ideal candidate will combine artistic creativity with technical production knowledge while leading a team of designers and project managers to deliver innovative, installation-ready custom designs.

Key Responsibilities:

Creative Leadership:

Lead concept development, art direction, and final execution of custom wallcoverings and murals.

Transform client concepts, mood boards, and design briefs into original, scalable digital artwork.

Establish creative standards while ensuring designs are both visually compelling and production-ready.

Collaborate directly with interior designers, distribution partners, and clients throughout the design process.

Digital Production & Technical Oversight:

Oversee digital file preparation, image scaling, color management, and production workflows.

Ensure color accuracy from digital proofs through final printed products.

Manage large-format layouts, repeat patterns, panel alignment, and installation-ready artwork.

Partner with manufacturing teams to determine appropriate substrates, inks, and finishing techniques.

Evaluate and recommend new printing technologies, software, and production methods.

Leadership & Team Management:

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of designers and project managers.

Establish efficient studio workflows and quality control standards.

Manage project timelines, priorities, and multiple concurrent custom projects.

Foster a collaborative, creative, and high-performance design environment.

Client & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Build strong relationships with clients and design partners.

Present design concepts and manage revisions through project completion.

Work closely with sales, production, and design teams to ensure customer expectations are exceeded.

Assist with project planning, scheduling, and custom design cost estimates.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred.

Minimum 5+ years of experience in surface design, digital art direction, interior design, or related creative disciplines.

At least 3 years of leadership or management experience leading creative teams.

Strong portfolio showcasing large-format murals, custom wallcoverings, or commercial/residential design projects.

Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop & Illustrator).

Experience preparing artwork for large-format printing and mural installations.

Knowledge of color management, print production workflows, substrates, and digital printing technologies.

Excellent communication, presentation, and client relationship management skills.
