About the Job:

We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering to provide strategic leadership, technical oversight, and operational management for a growing Civil Engineering team. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing engineering operations, ensuring technical excellence, managing multidisciplinary projects, mentoring engineering staff, and driving continuous improvement across the organization.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading civil engineering teams, managing transportation and public infrastructure projects, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with clients, public agencies, and internal departments to successfully deliver complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams while promoting a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.

Oversee the successful delivery of civil engineering projects from planning through completion.

Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and resource allocation.

Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, DOT regulations, quality assurance, and quality control procedures.

Develop and implement engineering processes, technical standards, SOPs, and QA/QC programs.

Coordinate engineering activities with Survey, Environmental, Construction Management, and other multidisciplinary teams.

Provide technical leadership for transportation, roadway, public works, and infrastructure projects.

Support business development through proposal preparation, technical presentations, feasibility studies, and client meetings.

Review engineering designs, calculations, reports, specifications, and construction documents.

Oversee engineering software implementation and technology strategy, including Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, and related engineering platforms.

Maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, consultants, and project stakeholders.

Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory updates to improve engineering practices.

Participate in executive planning, strategic initiatives, and organizational growth.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

Professional Engineer (PE) License (Utah or ability to obtain through reciprocity preferred).

10+ years of Civil Engineering experience.

Minimum 5+ years of engineering leadership, project management, or supervisory experience.

Strong background managing transportation, roadway, public works, or infrastructure projects.

Extensive knowledge of DOT standards, engineering regulations, and project delivery processes.

Experience managing project budgets, schedules, contracts, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Excellent leadership, communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.

Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with UDOT or other Department of Transportation projects.

Knowledge of FHWA standards and transportation engineering requirements.

Experience with public sector infrastructure projects.

Proficiency with:

Autodesk Civil 3D

MicroStation

OpenRoads Designer

GIS Platforms

Experience with proposal development and client relationship management.

Knowledge of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.

Familiarity with geotechnical investigations and engineering analysis.
