About the Job:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Industrial Engineer / Quoting Clerk – Engineering to support the Engineering team by preparing accurate cost estimates, technical quotations, and engineering documentation for battery cable and wire harness assemblies. This role is responsible for reviewing customer requirements, developing cable designs, preparing bills of materials (BOMs), and ensuring all engineering documentation meets customer specifications and company quality standards.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of electrical cable assemblies, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers and cross-functional teams. This position works closely with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Quality departments to deliver accurate quotations and manufacturable designs.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare accurate cost estimates, quotations, and engineering documentation for cable and wire harness assemblies.
Review customer drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine wire lengths, gauges, connectors, terminals, and assembly requirements.
Design, modify, and validate cable and harness assemblies using CAD software and engineering tools.
Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), labor estimates, routing information, and production documentation.
Communicate professionally with customers via email to gather technical information, clarify design requirements, and respond to quotation requests.
Coordinate with Production, Purchasing, and Quality teams to ensure design feasibility, material availability, and manufacturing efficiency.
Create and maintain cost analysis spreadsheets, engineering reports, and supporting documentation using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Support engineering improvement initiatives, capital projects, process documentation, purchase requisitions, and hazard reviews as needed.
Maintain organized records of engineering drawings, quotations, customer communications, and project documentation.
Ensure compliance with company policies, engineering standards, and quality requirements.
Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes, quotation accuracy, and operational efficiency.
Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Perform additional engineering or administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent industry experience.
Experience in engineering estimating, industrial engineering, cable design, wire harness manufacturing, or engineering quotations.
Strong understanding of electrical cable assemblies, wire harnesses, connectors, terminals, and related manufacturing processes.
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with customers and internal teams.
Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy.
Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects independently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience using CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design applications.
Previous experience within electrical cable manufacturing, wire harness production, or industrial manufacturing.
Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards or other wire harness industry standards.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems and engineering databases.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based with regular interaction with Engineering, Production, Purchasing, and Quality teams.
Frequent use of computers, engineering software, telephones, measuring tools, and standard office equipment.
Occasional visits to manufacturing and production areas to support engineering activities.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Ability to access production areas, storage locations, and file systems as required.
