Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Intake Attorney to join its growing legal team in Phoenix, AZ. This role is ideal for a plaintiff-side attorney with experience in personal injury, mass torts, pre-litigation, or legal intake who is comfortable evaluating cases, making fast legal decisions, and working in a high-volume environment.
The Intake Attorney will serve as the legal authority within a large intake operation, evaluating prospective cases, making retain/decline decisions, developing screening criteria, and supporting intake specialists on complex legal matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate prospective personal injury, rideshare abuse, and mass tort cases.
- Make timely retain/decline decisions based on liability, damages, insurance coverage, venue, and firm criteria.
- Review complex and sensitive prospective-client matters with professionalism and empathy.
- Develop and refine intake criteria, screening procedures, qualification scripts, and escalation guidelines.
- Provide legal guidance and training to intake specialists regarding legal issues, statutes of limitations, ethical requirements, and unauthorized practice of law.
- Review and protect statute-of-limitations deadlines across multiple jurisdictions.
- Oversee proper execution of fee agreements, HIPAA authorizations, and required disclosures.
- Ensure intake practices comply with applicable legal and ethical requirements.
- Work with intake leadership to evaluate retention rates, decline reasons, lead quality, and case outcomes.
- Collaborate with litigation, mass tort, and marketing teams to align intake criteria with current campaigns and case capacity.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active Arizona bar license in good standing, or willingness to obtain admission.
- 2+ years of experience in personal injury, mass torts, or related plaintiff-side practice.
- Experience in intake, pre-litigation, case evaluation, or litigation.
- Strong understanding of liability, damages, insurance coverage, and statutes of limitations.
- Ability to make accurate, timely decisions in a high-volume environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to interact professionally and empathetically with injured or vulnerable prospective clients.
- Comfortable working with intake platforms, CRM systems, and data dashboards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a high-volume intake or case-acquisition environment.
- Experience evaluating 500+ cases per month.
- Mass tort screening and campaign experience.
- Experience handling sensitive claims, including sexual abuse, assault, or similar matters.
- Spanish fluency or experience supporting multilingual intake operations.
- Experience training, mentoring, or supervising remote/distributed teams.
- Experience working across multiple jurisdictions.
