Legal Assistant – Civil Litigation
Location: San Diego, CA
Schedule: Full-time, Hybrid
Salary: $95,000–$105,000/year
Remote: Up to 4 remote days per month
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support multiple attorneys on a busy civil litigation team. The ideal candidate will have strong litigation experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to independently manage documents, deadlines, calendars, and attorney support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support multiple litigation attorneys with day-to-day legal and administrative needs.
- Draft, format, proofread, and finalize pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
- Prepare and electronically file documents with state and federal courts.
- Manage attorney calendars, court deadlines, hearings, depositions, and client meetings.
- Schedule and coordinate depositions, court reporters, witnesses, mediations, and hearings.
- Monitor litigation deadlines and follow up to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, vendors, and other parties.
- Organize and maintain electronic and physical case files.
- Assist with billing, expense reports, invoices, and other administrative matters.
- Provide trial and hearing preparation support, including exhibits and litigation binders.
- Handle confidential and sensitive legal information with professionalism.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of legal/litigation support experience.
- Experience working in civil litigation, preferably within a mid-size or large law firm.
- Strong knowledge of litigation terminology, procedures, and court filing requirements.
- Experience with pleadings, motions, discovery, e-filing, calendaring, and deadline management.
- Strong Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook skills.
- Experience with a legal document management system such as iManage or a comparable platform.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree is a plus.
Ideal Background
Candidates with experience in civil litigation, insurance defense, medical malpractice, professional liability, personal injury, commercial litigation, or other litigation-focused practice areas are encouraged to apply.
Work Arrangement
This is a primarily onsite position in San Diego, with the flexibility to work remotely up to 4 days per month.
Compensation
$95,000–$105,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
