About the Job:

We are seeking an experienced Legal Director to join our in-house legal team. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of commercial litigation experience with a strong background in litigation strategy, contract enforcement, collections, regulatory compliance, and managing complex legal matters. This role will oversee litigation portfolios, collaborate with outside counsel, provide legal guidance to internal stakeholders, and help minimize organizational risk while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage a high-volume portfolio of commercial litigation and contract enforcement matters.

Develop and lead pre-litigation strategies, negotiations, and settlement discussions.

Direct end-to-end litigation strategy, including oversight of outside counsel.

Evaluate legal claims and defenses, recommending litigation or settlement strategies.

Develop recovery strategies to maximize collections and minimize financial losses.

Draft, review, and revise demand letters, pleadings, legal memoranda, and other legal documents.

Monitor and manage outside legal counsel performance, budgets, and legal spend.

Support regulatory compliance initiatives, audits, and internal compliance programs.

Supervise compliance-related activities and provide guidance to legal and operational teams.

Partner with internal departments to identify legal risks and recommend proactive solutions.

Monitor trends in disputes and counterparty behavior to reduce recurring legal risks.

Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and industry regulations.

Required Qualifications:

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

5+ years of experience in commercial litigation, preferably in an in-house legal environment.

Strong experience handling commercial disputes, contract enforcement, and litigation management.

Experience leading settlement negotiations and pre-litigation resolution strategies.

Knowledge of collections litigation and judgment enforcement.

Experience working with outside counsel and managing legal budgets.

Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with secured transactions, collateral recovery, or asset-backed lending.

Background in collections litigation or enforcement actions.

Experience managing multi-jurisdictional litigation.

Familiarity with regulatory compliance, including:

Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)

Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)

Consumer privacy regulations

Experience supporting compliance audits and regulatory operations.
