About the job:
We are seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to support both pre-sales technical activities and post-award engineering execution for engineered-to-order industrial equipment projects. This role serves as the primary technical lead throughout the project lifecycle, from proposal development and customer consultations through detailed engineering, fabrication support, and project completion.
The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating customer requirements, developing process and mechanical designs, performing engineering calculations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes. This position requires strong technical expertise in oil & gas process equipment, pressure vessel design, process simulation, and multidisciplinary project coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and evaluate customer-provided technical documentation, including 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and quality requirements.
Analyze project requirements and identify design, fabrication, and operational considerations affecting project execution.
Collaborate with customers, project managers, estimators, and commercial teams to clarify technical requirements and resolve scope gaps.
Identify and communicate customer-driven scope changes that may impact project costs, schedules, or deliverables.
Develop and modify Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to support project design and estimating activities.
Perform equipment sizing and process calculations utilizing process simulation software and engineering tools.
Conduct engineering calculations for control valves, pressure regulators, pressure safety valves (PSVs), and pressure vacuum relief valves (PVRVs).
Perform pressure vessel design calculations in accordance with ASME code requirements using Codeware COMPRESS.
Review and approve engineering drawings, fabrication packages, and 3D models for technical accuracy and compliance.
Support fabrication, manufacturing, and project teams throughout project execution.
Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, codes, and customer specifications.
Participate in design reviews, technical meetings, and project planning activities.
Provide technical guidance and support to internal stakeholders and external customers.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
3–5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment.
Minimum 3 years of experience supporting Oil & Gas projects and process equipment.
Experience applying ASME standards and pressure vessel design principles.
Working knowledge of API, NFPA, ANSI, and other applicable engineering codes and standards.
Experience reviewing and interpreting Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
Familiarity with electrical area classification requirements and NFPA compliance.
Experience designing process control systems utilizing pneumatic, electromechanical, and electronic instrumentation.
Ability to develop process equipment layouts and conceptual designs with consideration for safety, maintainability, and operability.
Strong understanding of project specifications, contract documents, and engineering deliverables.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Technical Skills:
Proficiency with ProMax process simulation software.
Experience using Codeware COMPRESS for pressure vessel design calculations.
Knowledge of oil & gas process equipment design and fabrication practices.
Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project.
Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Primarily office-based engineering environment with frequent computer use.
Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing engineering and design work.
Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
Must be able to walk, stand, bend, reach, kneel, and navigate manufacturing or industrial environments when required.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in production or field settings.
Occasional travel may be required to customer locations, project sites, or company facilities.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record may be required.
