Job Title: MP/FP Estimator

Location: Medford, MA.

Job Type: Full-Time, Hybrid

About the Job:

We are seeking an experienced MP/FP Estimator to join a growing construction and preconstruction team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive mechanical piping, fire protection, and MEP estimates for a wide range of commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and extensive knowledge of construction costs, subcontractor markets, and estimating methodologies.


Key Responsibilities:

Create and distribute bid invitations to qualified subcontractors and vendors.

Follow up with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain complete and competitive pricing.

Attend site visits and job walk-throughs to assess existing conditions.

Review drawings, specifications, RFIs, schedules, and project documentation to understand project requirements.

Manage and maintain estimating documentation and project records.

Perform quantity takeoffs using On-Screen Takeoff (OST) software.

Develop detailed cost estimates using Excel and Sage estimating tools.

Prepare comprehensive scope sheets for subcontractors and vendors.

Analyze and evaluate subcontractor proposals, pricing, and scope coverage.

Conduct scope review meetings with subcontractors, design teams, and project stakeholders.

Negotiate scope modifications and final contract values.

Prepare bid packages and estimate summaries for lump-sum and negotiated projects.

Develop conceptual and schematic estimates for MEP systems.

Assist with procurement planning and pre-purchased equipment strategies.

Support value engineering and cost management initiatives.

Participate in project reconciliations during preconstruction phases.

Coordinate estimating and preconstruction meetings as required.

Serve as a subject matter expert for mechanical piping, HVAC, and fire protection systems.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of education and construction experience.

Strong understanding of mechanical, piping, fire protection, and MEP systems.

Knowledge of regional construction markets and subcontractor relationships.

Experience preparing detailed construction estimates and quantity takeoffs.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Familiarity with Sage Estimating and On-Screen Takeoff (OST) software.

Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.


Preferred Qualifications:

OSHA 10 Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Experience working with union subcontractors and complex commercial construction projects.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, and use a computer for extended periods.

Visual acuity sufficient for reviewing plans, specifications, and estimating documents.
