About the Job:
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager – Public Works to lead the successful execution of publicly funded and commercial construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing public works projects, including government facilities, educational institutions, and civic developments, while ensuring compliance with public agency requirements, prevailing wage regulations, and state construction standards.
This position offers the opportunity to oversee complex construction projects, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and build strong relationships with owners, architects, inspectors, and subcontractors while delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all phases of public works and commercial construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout.
Oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and execution activities.
Ensure compliance with public agency requirements, public contract regulations, prevailing wage laws, and state construction standards.
Coordinate and monitor certified payroll reporting and labor compliance requirements.
Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and look-ahead plans.
Manage subcontractor solicitation, scope review, buyout, contract administration, and performance.
Review and process RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, and project documentation.
Collaborate closely with field leadership to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, safety, quality, and project objectives.
Lead project meetings and maintain effective communication with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and stakeholders.
Track project costs, identify risks, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
Maintain accurate project records and provide regular progress reports to leadership.
Manage project closeout activities, including punch lists, final inspections, turnover documentation, and warranty requirements.
Support preconstruction efforts through estimating assistance, constructability reviews, scope analysis, and project planning.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of Project Management experience with a commercial general contractor.
Strong experience managing public works construction projects.
Experience with publicly funded projects, government facilities, schools, educational institutions, or civic projects.
Knowledge of prevailing wage requirements, labor compliance, certified payroll reporting, and public procurement processes.
Experience working with public agencies, architects, inspectors, consultants, and trade partners.
Strong understanding of construction means and methods, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and subcontractor management.
Proficiency with Procore or similar construction project management software.
Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
OSHA 30 certification preferred.
