Job Title: QA Tester / CJIS Application Tester

Location: Hartford, CT - Remote with occasional in-person meetings

Duration: 12 months

Position Overview

The Connecticut Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Governing Board is seeking an experienced Application Tester / QA Tester to support the Connecticut Information Sharing System (CISS) and other CJIS-managed systems.

The Application Tester will be responsible for system testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), requirements validation, test automation, defect management, and test reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience testing large, integrated IT systems and working with developers, project managers, testers, designers, and business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Create detailed test use cases, test scenarios, and test cases.
Execute system, functional, integration, and User Acceptance Testing.
Prepare and maintain test results and testing reports.
Develop and document testing processes for the QA team.
Support defect identification, investigation, resolution, and retesting.
Enter and track defects using defect management tools.
Support testing activities for new system releases.
Validate requirements and traceability matrices against contractual requirements.
Develop presentations and reports for stakeholders and management.
Provide testing consultation to project teams.
Maintain institutional knowledge of system design and functionality.
Develop, maintain, and enhance automation test frameworks.
Collaborate on the architecture and expansion of automation frameworks.
Maintain automated test suites and integrate them with DevOps.
Perform data-driven automation testing.
Work closely with project managers, developers, testers, designers, and other team members.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
5–7 years of experience as a tester on IT projects.
Programming experience with C# or Java.
Experience with NIEM XML or other complex XML standards.
Experience manually testing web services using SOAP UI and/or Postman.
Experience with SOA technologies.
Strong experience writing complex SQL queries using Microsoft SQL Server.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Experience with data-driven automation testing.
Knowledge of automation reporting tools such as Extent Reports.
Strong knowledge of GitHub.
Understanding of software design patterns.
Ability to understand complex integrated systems and trace issues to their source.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with IBM Rational Jazz Suite.
Experience working with CJIS, criminal justice, government, or other highly integrated systems.
Experience with DevOps integration and automated testing frameworks.
Experience working with large-scale information-sharing systems.

Work Schedule

Monday–Friday

Approximately 7:30 AM–4:00 PM / 8:00 AM–5:00 PM EST

The position is remote, with occasional attendance at in-person meetings when required.

Candidates must be local or willing to commute/relocate if required for in-person meetings.

Background Requirements

Pass a CJIS background investigation.
Schedule and complete the required background-check appointment.
Receive clearance before performing applicable work.

Ideal Candidate: An experienced QA/Application Tester with strong manual and automation testing skills, excellent SQL and web-service testing experience, programming knowledge in C# or Java, and the ability to work effectively on complex, integrated government systems.
