About the role

Job Title: Quality Assurance Engineer  

Location: Denver, CO - Hybrid – 1 day per week onsite at the Ralph Carr Judicial Center  

Duration: 12+ Months 

 Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Engineer to support software quality and reliability for the Colorado Judicial Department. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in both manual and automated testing, with the ability to design comprehensive test strategies, develop automation frameworks, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and collaborate closely with software engineers, business teams, and management.

The successful candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working across the full software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain comprehensive manual and automated test cases.
  • Perform functional, regression, API, performance, exploratory, and other types of software testing.
  • Translate business and functional requirements into detailed, efficient, and comprehensive test scenarios and cases.
  • Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools and technologies such as Playwright, TypeScript, Java, k6, MCP, and AI-assisted testing.
  • Design, implement, and enhance reusable enterprise-level test automation frameworks.
  • Apply automation framework architectures such as data-driven, keyword-driven, hybrid, and BDD.
  • Integrate automated testing into version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Execute performance tests by creating realistic user journeys, parameterizing test data, and developing appropriate load models.
  • Identify, document, track, and manage software defects throughout the defect lifecycle.
  • Use tools such as Zephyr Scale and GitLab to manage test cases, defects, and testing progress.
  • Utilize developer and troubleshooting tools to investigate issues, including:
  • Google Chrome DevTools
  • Application logs
  • HTTP requests and responses
  • Stack traces
  • Heap dumps
  • Analyze test failures and trace issues to their potential root causes, providing detailed technical information to development teams.
  • Identify quality risks early in the development lifecycle and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
  • Perform exploratory testing to identify defects and usability issues that may not be covered by predefined test cases.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases and analyze test data as needed.
  • Profile and analyze existing production data to support effective test planning and execution.
  • Work with specialized test data management and data governance platforms.
  • Apply industry-standard QA practices, testing methodologies, and quality standards.
  • Identify bottlenecks, waste, and process variation and develop data-driven improvements.
  • Participate in Agile development processes and cross-functional team activities.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and at least 3 years of relevant QA/automated testing experience; OR
  • At least 3 years of relevant QA/automated testing experience; OR
  • Three years of experience as a Business Analyst or Software Engineer within the Colorado Judicial Department.
  • Additional relevant professional experience may substitute for formal education on a year-for-year basis, where applicable.

  • Experience with AI-assisted software testing.
  • Experience working with large or complex applications and production datasets.
  • Experience collaborating with software developers, system personnel, business analysts, and management.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid position: Candidates must be local to the Denver, Colorado area and available to work onsite one day per week at the Ralph Carr Judicial Center.

Background Verification

Selected candidates will be required to complete applicable background verification, including:

  • Statewide Criminal Verification
  • Federal Criminal Verification
  • SSN Trace
  • Global Monitor Check

Important Note

Colorado Judicial Department experience is preferred but NOT mandatory. Candidates with strong QA/automation experience from other organizations are encouraged to apply.
