About the role
Job Title: Quilting Fabric Designer / Quilt Collection Designer
Location: New York, NY
Job Type: On-site, Full-Time
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and highly creative Quilting Fabric Designer to lead the development of commercially successful quilt and fabric collections from concept through production. This is not a general textile or apparel design role — the ideal candidate will have direct hands-on experience within the quilting fabric industry and a strong understanding of quilting-specific design aesthetics, production processes, and customer trends.
The right candidate will be able to independently create coordinated quilting collections, collaborate with mills and printers, manage strike-offs and lab dips, and bring market-ready collections to life with minimal oversight. This role requires both strong artistic ability and deep technical production knowledge within quilting cottons, home textiles, bedding, or related fabric categories.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop original quilting fabric collections from initial concept through final production
Create coordinated prints, color stories, patterns, and supporting artwork aligned with quilting market trends
Develop commercially viable collections tailored to quilting consumers and retailers
Work closely with mills, printers, and production partners on strike-offs, repeats, separations, and lab dips
Ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the fabric development and production process
Research quilting industry trends, seasonal color direction, and customer preferences
Prepare production-ready artwork and maintain strong technical design standards
Collaborate cross-functionally with product development, merchandising, sourcing, and production teams
Manage multiple collections and timelines simultaneously while maintaining quality and creativity
Contribute fresh ideas while maintaining brand consistency and commercial appeal
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of direct experience within the quilting fabric industry
Proven experience designing quilt/fabric collections from concept to production
Strong portfolio showcasing coordinated quilting collections and commercial artwork
Deep understanding of quilting cottons, home textiles, bedding, or quilting fabric brands
Experience working with mills, fabric printers, strike-offs, color approvals, and production workflows
Strong knowledge of quilting market trends, customer preferences, and color development
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and textile design software
Ability to work independently with minimal creative direction
Strong communication, organization, and project management skills
Stable work history with long-term career interest in the quilting/home textiles industry
