About the Job:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Authority (CxA) to manage and execute multiple building commissioning projects from planning through completion. This role will work closely with clients, project teams, contractors, and engineering professionals to ensure building systems are properly designed, installed, tested, and operating as intended.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in building commissioning, HVAC and electrical systems, construction, engineering review, and field testing, along with excellent communication and project management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Manage multiple commissioning projects, including client communication, team coordination, schedules, and project budgets.

Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.

Develop and implement commissioning plans, reports, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance test procedures.

Perform detailed peer reviews of construction documents, including engineering and design documentation.

Conduct technical analysis to evaluate building systems, equipment operation, and energy performance.

Perform jobsite observations, inspections, equipment verification, and field testing.

Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders throughout the commissioning process.

Identify system deficiencies, investigate operational issues, and recommend effective corrective actions.

Contribute to the development and improvement of commissioning processes, procedures, and industry best practices.

Support successful project delivery while maintaining quality, schedules, and client expectations.

Work collaboratively with internal and external project teams.

Travel to client and construction sites as required.

Required Qualifications:

5+ years of professional engineering, construction, or commissioning experience.

Experience working as a Commissioning Authority (CxA), Commissioning Engineer, or in a similar building commissioning role is strongly preferred.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent professional experience.

Strong understanding of HVAC and electrical system design, operation, and controls.

Experience working within the commercial construction industry.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities, particularly related to building performance and energy efficiency.

Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, schedules, and deadlines simultaneously.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with clients, contractors, engineers, and project teams.

Ability to travel for client engagements and project site visits.

Ability to safely navigate active construction sites, including climbing ladders and accessing mechanical/electrical equipment areas.

Reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Recognized Building Commissioning / CxA certification.

Knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards, including:

California Energy Code / Title 24

CALGreen

ASHRAE standards

Applicable mechanical and electrical codes

Experience with commercial and institutional building commissioning projects.

Experience with energy performance analysis and building systems optimization.
