Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Personal Injury Attorney to join our growing litigation team in Tacoma, WA. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of personal injury litigation experience, substantial first-chair trial experience, and a proven ability to manage complex cases independently from initial evaluation through settlement, trial, and appeal when necessary.

This attorney will represent clients in motor vehicle accidents, catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, premises liability, and other personal injury and tort matters. The successful candidate will be a strong courtroom advocate, skilled negotiator, excellent legal writer, and effective client communicator.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage a full caseload of personal injury litigation matters.
• Handle cases from initial case evaluation through discovery, mediation, settlement, trial, and appeal, as appropriate.
• Develop case strategy and oversee litigation preparation.
• Draft complaints, answers, motions, briefs, discovery, settlement demands, and other legal documents.
• Conduct and defend depositions, including party, witness, and expert depositions.
• Represent clients in mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, hearings, and court proceedings.
• Negotiate settlements with insurance carriers, defense counsel, and opposing parties.
• Prepare for and conduct jury and bench trials.
• Handle complex personal injury, catastrophic injury, wrongful death, motor vehicle accident, and premises liability cases.
• Maintain regular communication with clients and provide strategic legal advice throughout the litigation.
• Work collaboratively with paralegals, legal assistants, and junior attorneys.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior attorneys and litigation staff.
• Maintain an organized, high-volume litigation caseload while meeting court deadlines and client expectations.

Required Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active Washington State Bar license and good standing.
• 5+ years of personal injury litigation experience.
• Significant first-chair litigation and courtroom experience.
• Demonstrated experience handling personal injury cases through trial.
• Strong experience with depositions, discovery, motion practice, mediation, settlement negotiation, and trial preparation.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
• Strong client relationship and communication skills.
• Ability to independently manage a substantial litigation caseload.
• Strong understanding of Washington civil procedure and personal injury law.

Preferred Qualifications

• Jury trial experience with favorable verdicts.
• Experience handling catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters.
• Experience litigating complex motor vehicle accident and premises liability cases.
• Leadership, supervision, or mentoring experience.
• Board certification or recognized specialization in personal injury or civil trial law, where applicable.
