Job Summary
The Client is seeking a Substitute Teacher with a valid Tennessee teaching license. The Substitute Teacher will work under the direct supervision of the school's educational administrative team and will be responsible for maintaining a safe, positive, and productive learning environment while following the lesson plans and responsibilities of the classroom teacher or educational assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Report to the educational office each morning upon arrival and each afternoon after dismissal.
- Follow teacher lesson plans and assume the duties of the classroom teacher or educational assistant in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Perform additional school duties as assigned, which may include:
- Lunchroom duty
- Bus duty
- Hall duty
- Other duties assigned by school administrators
- Familiarize yourself with school emergency procedures and students' medical needs as outlined in the substitute folder.
- Maintain normal classroom routines as much as possible.
- Supervise students at all times.
- Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Report significant disciplinary issues to building-level administrators immediately.
- Protect the confidentiality and privacy of all students.
- Treat all observations and conversations involving students as confidential and discuss them only with authorized school administrators.
- Follow directions and school procedures consistently.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid Tennessee teaching license required.
- Two years of college or a Bachelor's degree preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children who have special needs is preferred.
- Previous classroom, teaching, educational assistant, or school-related experience is a plus.
Background Check & Fingerprinting
Because this position involves working in a school environment, selected candidates must successfully complete a TBI/FBI background check and fingerprinting.
The screening may include:
- Tennessee and federal criminal history checks
- Child abuse records
- Employment verification
- Professional references
- Personal references
Important: Any discrepancies or red flags identified during the background check or fingerprinting process may result in the candidate being disqualified.
Fingerprinting is mandatory upon acceptance and must be reviewed and approved before the contract can be finalized. Candidates should be screened for potential background issues before submission.

Work Schedule
- Monday–Friday
- 8:00 AM–5:00 PM CST
- 8 hours per day
Important Candidate Requirements
- Valid Tennessee teaching license is mandatory.
- Must be able to work onsite in Nashville, TN.
- Must successfully pass required background screening and fingerprinting.
- Must be dependable, punctual, and able to follow school policies and administrative direction.
- Experience working with children with special needs is preferred.
